Residents who have not had their grey bins emptied for the last two Fridays because of icy conditions, can put their rubbish out today (Monday 28 January) instead.

Some side roads and cul-de-sacs in the Bentley, Willenhall, Moxley and Darlaston areas of the borough were too difficult to negotiate again at the end of last week.

But the council appreciates that people in these areas may have missed out the week before last (Friday 18 January) when snow first hit the region and again last week (Friday 25 January).

Those whose rubbish has not been collected for the last two Fridays are being asked to put their grey bins – and up to three bags of additional waste – out again today, Monday 28 January, when crews will be clearing the backlog.

Crews will endeavour to pick up all missed collections today but may have to leave some until tomorrow, Tuesday 29 January 2013.

Councillor Tom Ansell, portfolio holder for the environment and transport with Walsall Council Coalition said: “We apologise to residents whose bins have unfortunately not been collected during this spell of bad weather and thank them for their patience.

“Our refuse and recycling crews were out in all the snow and ice every day last week, collecting bins wherever possible, but some side roads and cul-de-sacs have just been too treacherous.

“We have to consider the safety of residents and refuse collectors alike.
